2018~2019 Voice Phishing and Drug Offender Reports
Revealing 'Double Life'
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] Jo Joo-bin (24, in custody), the operator of the Telegram 'Baksa Bang' who sparked national outrage for producing and distributing sexually exploitative videos of minors and women, was confirmed to have received a certificate of appreciation and reward money from the police in the past.
According to the Police Agency's 'Digital Sex Crime Special Investigation Headquarters' on the 29th, Jo received a total of 1.4 million won in reward money five times from January 2018 to April last year in Incheon for contributing to the arrest of criminals by reporting voice phishing and drug offenders.
Among these, four times were from the Michuhol Police Station in Incheon, and once from the Yeonsu Police Station. Additionally, Jo was confirmed to have received a certificate of appreciation once from the Michuhol Police Station.
Previously, on an internet community, a person presumed to be Jo shared a photo of the certificate of appreciation he received, causing controversy. Although part of the content in the attached photo was obscured, considering the timing and content, strong claims were made that it was indeed Jo.
Among the posts the writer had previously uploaded to the community were many analyzing the physiognomy of celebrities and famous people.
With the official confirmation by the police that Jo had received not only certificates of appreciation but also reward money in the past, Jo's 'double life' is expected to resurface. Even while operating 'Baksa Bang,' Jo showed a different outward appearance by engaging in volunteer activities.
Meanwhile, the police have launched a full-scale investigation, considering more active legal applications against participants of the so-called Telegram 'n-bang.' Earlier, the police raided virtual currency exchanges and purchasing agencies to secure related materials.
