[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] The number of confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) in Seoul has increased to at least 406.
Since midnight on the 28th, more than 15 new COVID-19 cases have been reported across various districts in Seoul.
According to Dongjak-gu, a woman in her 40s residing in Heukseok-dong was confirmed as the 18th patient in the district on the same day. It is presumed that she was infected while caring for her 11-year-old elementary school son (Dongjak-gu patient No. 13, confirmed on the 20th), who was hospitalized at Boramae Hospital after contracting COVID-19 in the United States.
The mother initially tested negative along with her son on the 19th, but after a retest on the 27th, she was notified of a positive result the following day. The son had stayed in the United States for about 3 years and 7 months from August 2016 until the 15th of this month before returning to Korea.
In Gangnam-gu, five confirmed cases tested positive after midnight on the 28th, four of which were imported cases. Patients No. 30 (43-year-old female), 31 (24-year-old female), 33 (19-year-old male), and 34 (16-year-old male) in Gangnam-gu all recently traveled abroad and returned via flights through Incheon Airport, having been tested on the 27th.
Gangnam-gu patient No. 30 returned on the afternoon of the 18th on Japan Airlines flight JAL8951 from Narita Airport, Japan, together with her elementary school daughter studying in London, UK. After self-quarantine, she developed a high fever of 37.8°C, chills, and muscle pain starting on the afternoon of the 26th.
Patient No. 31 returned on the afternoon of the 25th on Korean Air flight KE082 from New York after the university she was attending there temporarily closed.
Patient No. 33 returned on the morning of the 27th on Asiana Airlines flight OZ5223 from London Heathrow Airport after the university in London issued a closure order. He showed no particular symptoms.
Patient No. 34 returned on the afternoon of the 24th on Delta Airlines flight DL0159 from Detroit after the high school he was attending in Kansas, USA, closed. He experienced cough, muscle pain, diarrhea, and headache starting the morning of the 26th.
In Songpa-gu, a 25-year-old man living in Garakbon-dong was confirmed positive on the 28th, the day after he was tested. In Jung-gu, a man in his 20s who had been studying in Thailand entered through Incheon Airport on the 25th with respiratory symptoms, was tested on the 27th, and confirmed as the district’s third patient on the 28th.
Yangcheon-gu announced that a 24-year-old woman living in Sinjeong 1-dong was confirmed as the 17th patient in the district on the morning of the 28th. This patient, a student studying in the United States, entered through Incheon Airport on the afternoon of the 26th and was self-quarantining at home. On the 27th, after being notified that a passenger seated next to her on the return flight was confirmed positive, she underwent testing that evening. Yangcheon-gu plans to test her parents who live with her.
In Gwanak-gu, a 26-year-old man living in Namhyeon-dong, who visited New York, USA, from the 5th to the 16th and returned on the 17th, was confirmed as the 22nd patient in the district on the 28th.
Additionally, five people related to the Manmin Central Church were confirmed positive in Seoul on the 28th: a female pastor in her 50s (Dongjak-gu patient No. 17), a female church staff member in her 50s (Dongjak-gu patient No. 19), and three church members?a 49-year-old male (Guro-gu patient No. 27), a 44-year-old male (Guro-gu patient No. 28), and a 47-year-old female (Guro-gu patient No. 29).
Two newly disclosed overseas infection cases that were notified the previous day were also revealed.
Gangnam-gu patient No. 29 (56-year-old male) visited Seattle, USA, for two weeks starting on the 4th of this month and returned on the afternoon of the 26th on Delta Airlines flight DL199 from Seattle. He was confirmed positive on the day of testing, the 27th.
Guro-gu announced that a 25-year-old man living in Guro 2-dong was confirmed as the 26th patient in the district. This patient entered from the United States on the 24th and was voluntarily self-quarantining before testing positive on the afternoon of the 27th.
