Tokyo Olympics Likely in July-August Next Year, May-June Hosting Option Also Considered

According to NHK and other foreign media on the 28th, 123 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed in Japan the previous day. This is the largest increase in the number of confirmed cases since the spread of COVID-19 infection in Japan.
Tokyo Metropolis recorded more than 40 new confirmed cases for three consecutive days. Excluding cruise ship passengers (712 people) among the confirmed cases in Japan, Tokyo had the highest number with 299 cases by region, followed by Osaka Prefecture with 176, Hokkaido with 169, and Aichi Prefecture with 160.
The number of deaths among confirmed COVID-19 cases in Japan increased by 5 the previous day, bringing the total to 62 so far.
Meanwhile, regarding the timing of the Tokyo Olympics, which was postponed due to the COVID-19 outbreak, a plan to hold it in May to June next year has newly emerged.
According to Yomiuri Shimbun and others, as coordination on the timing of the Tokyo Olympics is intensifying, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the Japanese government still strongly support holding the event in summer (July to August) next year, but the plan to hold it in spring (May to June) is also gaining attention.
It is reported that after the IOC gathered opinions from various sports organizations, voices hoping for a spring or autumn event have emerged.
