[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] The number of confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the United States has surpassed 100,000.


According to Johns Hopkins University, as of the afternoon of the 27th (local time), the number of COVID-19 patients in the U.S. is 100,717.


The U.S. overtook China and Italy the day before to become the country with the highest number of confirmed COVID-19 cases, and on this day, the number of confirmed cases continued to rise, making it the first country worldwide to surpass 100,000 cases.


The number of COVID-19 patients in the U.S. exceeded 10,000 on the 19th, surpassed 20,000 on the 21st, and then showed a steep increase with 30,000 on the 22nd, 40,000 on the 23rd, 50,000 on the 24th, 60,000 on the 25th, and 80,000 on the 26th.


The number of patients in New York State, which has the highest number of cases in the U.S., exceeded 44,000 on this day. The number of COVID-19 deaths in the U.S. also rose to 1,544.


In Europe, Italy recorded 86,498 cases, surpassing China to become the country with the second highest number of cases, and the death toll reached 9,134, with the number of deaths expected to surpass 10,000 soon.
