[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ga-yeon] Donghae City, Gangwon Province, is launching a campaign to help fishermen struggling due to the impact of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) by promoting squid sales.

The city announced on the 27th that it will sell 2,000 boxes of squid through the website 'Donghae Mall' starting at 1 PM on the 30th. To prevent the spread of COVID-19, the sales will be conducted exclusively online as part of social distancing measures.

The city plans to sell one box of squid, originally priced at 27,500 KRW, for 20,000 KRW. Each box contains a total of 10 squid, individually quick-frozen in pairs. Sales will be on a first-come, first-served basis, with a limit of one box per person.

The difference in cost, including shipping fees and card processing charges, will be covered by Donghae City and the Fisheries Cooperative.

Earlier, Gangwon Province launched a potato sales event starting on the 11th to support farmers facing difficulties due to COVID-19.

At that time, the price of potatoes was set at 5,000 KRW for 10 kg, including shipping fees, and it gained great popularity.
