[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Cho] The prosecution has requested arrest warrants for individuals who assisted Lee Jong-pil, former Vice President of Lime Asset Management and the main culprit in the 'Lime Scandal,' in his escape.
The Seoul Southern District Prosecutors' Office announced that on the morning of the 26th, they arrested two aides, Seong Mo and Han Mo, who helped Lee escape, and applied the charge of 'harboring a criminal,' subsequently requesting arrest warrants on the 27th.
The prosecution did not disclose the specific circumstances of their arrest. They also did not reveal how these individuals assisted Lee in his escape or what their relationship with Lee was.
The pre-arrest suspect interrogation (warrant hearing) for these individuals is expected to be held on the afternoon of the 30th at the Seoul Southern District Court.
Lee has been on the run since November of last year. At that time, Lee was implicated in an embezzlement case involving 80 billion KRW by the management of Lead, a KOSDAQ-listed company, and an arrest warrant was issued. However, he did not appear for the warrant hearing and disappeared.
Since then, although the prosecution has expanded its investigation into the Lime Scandal, they have not secured Lee's whereabouts. The prosecution is also not ruling out the possibility that Lee fled by stowing away and has requested Interpol to issue a red notice.
