[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] A man suspected of participating in the Telegram 'Baksa Room,' an internet messenger group involved in producing and distributing sexual exploitation materials of minors, died after jumping into the Han River.
According to police and fire authorities on the 27th, around 2:47 a.m., a man in his 40s, identified as Mr. A, made an extreme choice at the Yeongdong Bridge over the Han River.
Mr. A, confirmed to be a working professional in his 40s, reportedly felt intense pressure due to media reports stating that investigations targeting participants of the Baksa Room would be intensified.
An A4-sized suicide note was found at the scene where Mr. A died. The note reportedly contained an apology stating, "I deposited money into the Baksa Room but did not expect things to escalate like this. I am sorry to the victims, their families, and relatives."
The police are investigating the exact circumstances of Mr. A's extreme choice based on nearby closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage, the suicide note, and information from his family.
