Proportional Representation No. 1, Jeong Hye-seon, Professor at Catholic University College of Medicine
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] The Minsheng Party's Nomination Management Committee announced the list of 24 proportional representation candidates for the April 15 general election on the 27th. The newly formed Nomination Committee revised the position of Son Hak-gyu, the Standing Election Countermeasures Committee Chairman, from number 2 to number 14 on the proportional representation list.
Kim Myung-sam, the head of the Nomination Committee, stated in a briefing immediately after the meeting at the National Assembly, "We have made efforts to revive the purpose of the mixed-member proportional representation system for the sake of the merger of the three parties and the hope of future generations, as well as to solve the livelihood issues of small business owners and self-employed people."
The number 1 proportional representative candidate is Jeong Hye-seon, a professor at the Catholic University College of Medicine; number 2 is Lee Nae-hoon, former standing deputy spokesperson of the Bareunmirae Party; number 3 is co-representative Kim Jeong-hwa; number 4 is Kim Jong-gu, former Supreme Council member of the Democratic Peace Party; and number 5 is Jang Jeong-sook, the floor leader.
The Minsheng Party's Supreme Council replaced the head and members of the Nomination Committee en masse that morning. This was because former Nomination Committee Chairman Ahn Byeong-won and others lost contact after co-representative Kim requested a reconsideration from the committee. Kim told reporters, "Former Chairman Ahn has been out of contact for about 20 hours. It is practically close to an accident. Therefore, we dismissed former Chairman Ahn and appointed Kim Myung-sam as the head of the Nomination Committee."
Former Chairman Ahn claimed, "The party leadership and some reckless individuals colluded to dismiss the Nomination Committee Chairman by an irregular method without knowing the quorum required for the Supreme Council's resolution," adding, "It is illegal, invalid, and unlawful." Under former Chairman Ahn's Nomination Committee, number 2 was assigned to Chairman Son, and number 5 to Lee Haeng-ja, former deputy head of the Bareunmirae Party.
