Gangdong-gu Distributes Mask Packages to 60,000 Seniors

Gangdong-gu Distributes Mask Packages to 60,000 Seniors

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Jeong-hoon) will distribute ‘mask packages’ containing masks and filters to about 60,000 local seniors aged 65 and over.

This measure is to help seniors who are suffering from the dual difficulties of mask shortages caused by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and concerns about deteriorating health.

The mask package includes one KF94 mask, one 3D mask, and 10 filters to be used with the 3D mask. Unlike disposable masks, the 3D mask can be washed and reused.

Also, since the masks are produced by a fashion sewing company located in Gangdong-gu, this is expected to contribute to revitalizing the local economy, which has been depressed due to COVID-19.

The recipients are seniors aged 65 and over residing in the area as of February 2020, excluding those who have already received masks through customized care services, basic livelihood security recipients, and low-income seniors. From the 27th, welfare community leaders in each neighborhood will distribute the packages, and they will also be provided with mask packages so that they can wear masks during distribution.

Lee Jeong-hoon, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, said, “Through the support of mask packages, we expect to prevent unfortunate accidents such as seniors collapsing from cerebral hemorrhage or cardiac arrest after standing in long lines to buy masks, as they are a vulnerable group in terms of health. We will provide meticulous support to protect seniors from COVID-19.”

Since early in the COVID-19 outbreak on February 6, Gangdong-gu has been making every effort to create a ‘safe area for seniors’ by supporting about 1,350 seniors under customized care services with quarantine kits called ‘Safe Bundles’ containing masks and hand sanitizers, conducting large-scale disinfection at 174 senior welfare facilities, and supplying quarantine supplies.
