[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hye-min] The United Future Party has expelled 7 of its proportional representation members. This move is aimed at transferring them to the satellite party for proportional representation, the Future Korea Party.
On the night of the 26th, the United Future Party held a party meeting at the National Assembly and expelled 7 proportional representation members. If a proportional representative leaves the party, they lose their parliamentary seat. To maintain their seat while changing party affiliation, a consensus must be reached at the party meeting.
The expelled members are Kim Gyu-hwan, Kim Soon-rye, Kim Jong-seok, Moon Jin-guk, Yoon Jong-pil, Kim Seung-hee, and Song Hee-kyung. They are scheduled to join the Korea Party on the 27th.
As a result, the Future Korea Party's seats will increase from the current 10 to 17. In this case, the Democratic Party of Korea and the United Future Party, which do not field proportional representation candidates, will disappear from the party ballot, making it highly likely that the Minsheng Party (21 seats) will be assigned number 2 on the ballot.
By securing the top positions on the ballot, the party subsidy is also expected to increase. The Future Korea Party is working hard to secure 3 more incumbent members to gain the status of a negotiating group. If successful, they could receive an additional election subsidy of over 5 billion won on the 30th.
