Daebang-dong, Noryangjin-dong, Bondong, Sadang-dong, and 4,945 Other Locations Sewer Manhole Inspections Underway... Safety Grade Evaluation by Manhole Condition Sets Maintenance Priorities for Comprehensive Management
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Dongjak-gu (Mayor Changwoo Lee) will conduct a detailed inspection of all sewage manholes in the area by October.
They will measure the internal and external conditions of 9,445 sewage manholes in the area, assign safety grades from A to E based on functionality and aging, and undertake systematic manhole maintenance.
First, this year, with a budget of 130 million KRW, inspections will be carried out on 4,945 sewage manholes in Daebang-dong, Noryangjin-dong, Bon-dong, Sadang-dong, Dongjak-dong, Heukseok-dong, and parts of Sangdo-dong.
Last year, inspections were completed on 4,500 sewage manholes along major arterial roads and in the Sangdo-dong and Sindaebang-dong areas.
The main inspection items include ▲ cracks and damage to manhole covers and height adjustment parts ▲ external inspection of manholes such as surrounding pavement damage and subsidence ▲ internal corrosion of manholes ▲ intrusion of tree roots ▲ non-destructive strength testing, all conducted using measuring equipment.
Manholes graded D to E, which show functional deterioration and require action due to aging, will be prioritized for maintenance.
Based on the results, the district plans to input information such as manhole type, installation date, condition, and photos into related systems and prepare maintenance plans by grade to comprehensively manage sewage manholes in the area.
Hwang Wang-yeon, Director of the Water Management Division, said, “Through this detailed sewage manhole inspection, we aim to prevent road accidents in advance and prepare thoroughly for flood damage during the rainy season. We will continue to do our best to protect residents' safety through ongoing sewage facility management.”
Last year, the district repaired 40 manholes with defective covers and road pavement surfaces and installed inverts in 63 manholes where sediment had accumulated and sewage flow was obstructed.
