[Asia Economy Reporter Dongwoo Lee] An American international student (Gangnam-gu case number 21) who was diagnosed with COVID-19 after traveling to Jeju and her accompanying mother have also tested positive.

Jeju Province announced on the 26th that it received notification from the Gangnam Public Health Center in Seoul that A (19, female), an American international student who tested positive for COVID-19, and her mother B, who traveled together in Jeju, have both tested positive.

After hearing about her daughter's positive COVID-19 diagnosis, B underwent testing on the 25th and received a positive result on the same day. B currently shows no suspected symptoms of COVID-19.

The mother and daughter traveled with two others for a 4-night, 5-day trip in Jeju from the 20th to the 24th. The two others tested negative.

The province is conducting additional epidemiological investigations following B's positive diagnosis. As of 5 p.m. on the same day, 47 contacts of the mother and daughter have been identified and quarantined. Disinfection and sanitation have been completed at all 20 locations visited by the confirmed cases.

The province explained that when A visited a clinic and pharmacy on the 23rd with a fever, the clinic and pharmacy confirmed her overseas travel history through the Drug Utilization Review (DUR) system but did not guide her to a screening clinic.

Accordingly, the province sent cooperation letters to the Jeju Medical Association of the Korean Medical Association and the Jeju branch of the Korean Pharmaceutical Association, requesting active use of DUR and the International Travel History Information System (ITS) to provide proper medical guidance.

Furthermore, the province urged active reporting of anyone who boarded the ferry departing from Udo to Seongsanpo at 5 p.m. on the 23rd along with the mother and daughter. The province plans to disclose additional movement information of the mother and daughter as it becomes available.
