[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Yeon-ju] Hwanhee, a member of Fly to the Sky, issued a handwritten apology regarding the controversy caused by drunk driving.

On the 26th, Hwanhee stated through his official fan cafe, "I am deeply sorry and regretful to deliver such bad news during these difficult times not only in Korea but worldwide due to COVID-19. Recently, I have been going through a tough period, unable to sleep properly even for a single day, as I got involved in a lawsuit with an acquaintance I have been working with."

He explained, "During this very difficult time, I had a dinner meeting to receive advice from an acquaintance whom I usually trust and follow. Although I do not usually enjoy drinking, I drank about half a bottle of soju out of courtesy that day. The gathering ended around 9 p.m., and I stayed at the acquaintance’s house and left for my parents’ home around 5 a.m. the next day." He added, "Since the alcohol was consumed the day before and I went to bed relatively early, I thought I would not have a hangover. My actions at that time were very foolish, and I sincerely repent now."

He continued, "I apologize deeply for causing trouble during such a difficult time, failing to bring joy, and I bow my head in apology to not only my fans but everyone who has been watching over me. As a public figure, I will deeply reflect on my failure to make proper judgments," he said.

Hwanhee was booked without detention on suspicion of drunk driving near Bojeong-dong, Giheung-gu, Yongin-si, around 6 a.m. on the 21st. It is known that his blood alcohol concentration at the time of detection was 0.061%, which is at the license suspension level.

Below is the full handwritten apology from Hwanhee’s fan cafe

This is Hwanhee.

First, I sincerely apologize to all the many people who care for and love me for causing controversy with this incident.

It is with a very heavy and apologetic heart that I deliver such bad news during these difficult times not only in Korea but worldwide due to COVID-19.

Recently, I have been going through a tough period, unable to sleep properly even for a single day, as I got involved in a lawsuit with an acquaintance I have been working with.

Mentally and physically exhausted, on the 20th, I had a dinner meeting to receive advice from an acquaintance whom I usually trust and follow.

I do not usually enjoy drinking, but on that day, I drank about half a bottle of soju out of courtesy.

The gathering ended around 9 p.m., and I stayed at the acquaintance’s house and left for my parents’ home around 5 a.m. on the 21st.

The reason I left for my parents’ home at dawn is as follows.

I have always visited my mother, who lives alone in Yongin, my hometown, every weekend.

Since I usually visit early, I was eager to go quickly that day as well.

Since the alcohol was consumed the day before and I went to bed relatively early, I thought I would not have a hangover.

My actions at that time were very foolish, and I sincerely repent now.

I apologize deeply for causing trouble during such a difficult time, failing to bring joy, and I bow my head in apology to not only my fans but everyone who has been watching over me.

As a public figure, I will deeply reflect on my failure to make proper judgments. I am sorry and truly sorry.
