[Express Train - Episode 68] Seonam, Developer of 2nd Generation High-Temperature Superconducting Wire

Seonam was founded by CEO Moon Seung-hyun, who had participated in the national research and development project "Next-Generation Superconducting Application Technology Development" under the 21st Century Frontier R&D program since 2002 as a member of Seoul National University. Based on over 20 years of experience in the field of superconductors, he is developing new materials.

The second-generation high-temperature superconducting wire (HTS 2G Wire) is a wire that exhibits superconducting properties with zero electrical resistance at liquid nitrogen temperature (minus 196 degrees Celsius). It has a structure where oxide thin films with different properties are deposited on bendable polycrystalline metal substrates such as stainless steel and Hastelloy, allowing the high-temperature superconducting layer to grow as a single crystal. For this reason, it is also called CC (Coated Conductor).

Compared to the first-generation wire made by filling high-temperature superconducting powder into a silver (Ag) tube, it is technically more challenging. It is a technology-intensive energy material with excellent mechanical properties and raw material costs accounting for less than 10%, making it a high entry barrier. The development of artificial suns (Fusion Reactors) using this material is actively being pursued mainly by the private sector.

Patent attorney Eom Jeong-han from BLT Patent Law Firm reviewed Seonam's patent and trademark application status.

Listed companies on the domestic stock market disclose patent acquisition information through the Financial Supervisory Service's electronic disclosure system. However, many stock investors tend to overlook patent disclosures.

Not only patents but also trademark registrations serve as important indicators for understanding future corporate value, as they signal the direction a listed company is heading. Some patent disclosures even act as direct triggers for stock price increases.

It is not easy for ordinary investors to grasp the impact on companies through patent disclosures or to check trademark application statuses one by one. Asia Economy, together with patent attorney Eom Jeong-han from BLT Patent Law Firm, is reviewing the patent and trademark application status of listed companies through "Special Express Train."

"Special Express Train" is an abbreviation for a broadcast that diligently searches for rapidly rising stocks through patents.
