Ministry of Justice Forms Digital Sex Crime Response Task Force... "Measures to Prevent Recurrence"

[Asia Economy Reporter Song Seung-yoon] The Ministry of Justice has formed and begun operating a 'Digital Sex Crime Response Task Force (TF)' to address digital sex crime cases.


On the 26th, the Ministry of Justice announced that it has established a dedicated TF to respond to digital sex crime cases, including the recently controversial so-called 'Nth Room case,' to prepare institutional improvement measures. The head of the TF will be the Director of the Policy Planning Division of the Ministry of Justice.


The TF will be responsible for ▲supporting investigation, prosecution maintenance, and criminal justice cooperation (Investigation Support Team) ▲preparing related legal and institutional improvement plans (Legal and Institutional Improvement Team) ▲checking policy and practical operation status (Policy and Practical Research Team) ▲victim protection and support such as public defender assistance (Victim Protection Team) ▲liaison with related ministries (External Cooperation Team) and other tasks.


A Ministry of Justice official stated, "Through the TF, we will strictly respond to digital sex crime cases and also prepare fundamental institutional improvement measures to protect victims and prevent recurrence."


The Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office also formed a TF for investigating digital sex crime cases the day before. The TF consists of 21 members, including 9 prosecutors and 12 investigators. Under the command of Deputy Chief Prosecutor Kim Wook-joon, Deputy Head of the Women and Children Crime Investigation Division (Yeojobu) Yoo Hyun-jung serves as the head of the TF. This TF was jointly formed by four departments: the Women and Children Crime Investigation Division (Yeojobu), the Violent Crime Division, the Crime Proceeds Recovery Division, and the Immigration and Customs Crime Division.
