[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province is launching an intensive investigation into illegal distribution activities targeting pesticide and fertilizer businesses within the province.
The Gyeonggi Province Special Judicial Police announced on the 26th that, in preparation for the peak season of pesticide and fertilizer distribution in spring, they will conduct a focused investigation on illegal distribution activities targeting pesticide and fertilizer production and sales businesses from the 30th of this month to the 17th of next month.
The main crackdown targets include ▲ smuggled pesticides ▲ unregistered pesticides and fertilizers ▲ pesticides past their efficacy guarantee period ▲ fertilizers without guarantee labeling ▲ illegal pesticide distribution through internet and flower retailers. A total of 135 businesses will be inspected.
The Special Judicial Police plan to fundamentally block illegal pesticide and fertilizer distribution and production by tracing the distribution routes at each stage, including sales companies, distribution companies, and production companies, when illegal pesticides and fertilizers are detected.
Inchi Kwon, head of the Gyeonggi Province Special Judicial Police, stated, "Using counterfeit or substandard pesticides and fertilizers during crop sowing and growth periods can cause significant damage to farmers at harvest time," adding, "We plan to strictly punish the detected companies according to relevant laws."
