[Public Officials' Assets] Four with Over 10 Billion KRW in Gyeongbuk Province... Lee Cheol-woo, Governor of Gyeongbuk, Holds 1.5 Billion KRW


[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Young-wook] Among 285 high-ranking public officials in Gyeongsangbuk-do, four officials possess assets exceeding 10 billion KRW.


According to the '2020 Regular Asset Change Report' disclosed on the 26th through the official gazette by the Gyeongsangbuk-do Public Officials Ethics Committee, three of the top 10 government high-ranking officials by total assets are from Gyeongbuk.


Park Young-seo, a Gyeongbuk Provincial Assembly member, holds 11.681 billion KRW, Kim Soo-moon, a Gyeongbuk Provincial Assembly member, holds 10.782 billion KRW, and Jeon Woo-heon, Deputy Governor for Economic Affairs of Gyeongbuk Province, holds 10.391 billion KRW, each possessing assets in the 10 billion KRW range, ranking within the top 10 nationwide. Jeong Byung-yoon, President of Gyeongbuk Provincial University, is outside the top 10 but reported assets of 10.01 billion KRW.


Gyeongbuk Governor Lee Cheol-woo's assets amounted to 1.516 billion KRW, an increase of 124 million KRW compared to the previous year. Kim Byung-soo, Mayor of Ulleung County, had the highest assets among basic local government heads in the province, totaling 6.418 billion KRW.


Among those subject to disclosure under the jurisdiction of the Government Public Officials Ethics Committee in Gyeongbuk are 83 individuals, including the governor, deputy governor, deputy governor for economic affairs, president of Gyeongbuk Provincial University, 57 provincial assembly members, and 22 mayors and county heads.


Executives of public-related organizations such as the President of Gyeongbuk Development Corporation, Director of Gyeongbuk Technopark, President of Gyeongbuk Culture and Tourism Corporation, as well as city and county council members totaling 285 individuals, are subject to disclosure by the Gyeongsangbuk-do Public Officials Ethics Committee.


The average reported assets of the 285 disclosed individuals by the Gyeongbuk Public Officials Ethics Committee were 780 million KRW, an increase of 49 million KRW from the previous year. Among them, 66% (189 individuals) saw an increase in assets. The average increase was 127 million KRW.


Fifty-one percent (144 individuals) of the disclosed individuals have assets under 500 million KRW. Additionally, 73 individuals have assets between 500 million and 1 billion KRW, 41 between 1 billion and 2 billion KRW, 23 between 2 billion and 5 billion KRW, and 4 individuals have assets exceeding 5 billion KRW. The average reported assets of 278 city and county council members were 738 million KRW.


The Gyeongbuk Public Officials Ethics Committee plans to review the sincerity of the asset reports of the disclosed public officials by the end of June (within three months after disclosure) through data inquiries with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the National Tax Service, and financial institutions.
