[Public Officials' Assets] Kang Kyung-hwa, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Total Assets of Self and Spouse Amount to 3.7 Billion Won

Increased by 240 Million in One Year... 2019 Public Officials' Asset Disclosure

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The total assets of Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha last year amounted to 3.76966 billion KRW, an increase of 240.42 million KRW compared to the previous year.

According to the regular asset change report of asset disclosure subjects released by the Government Public Officials Ethics Committee on the 26th, Minister Kang reported a total of 3.76966 billion KRW including her spouse's assets. Those obligated to register assets regularly must report asset changes from January 1 to December 31, 2019, by the end of February 2020, according to Article 6 of the Public Officials Ethics Act.

The reported list included buildings worth 2.14696 billion KRW such as a multi-family house owned by her in Bongcheon-dong, Seoul, and a detached house owned by her spouse in Yeonhui-dong, Seodaemun-gu, as well as land worth 588.87 million KRW owned by herself, her spouse, and children. Minister Kang gifted the yard of her Yeonhui-dong residence in Seoul to her three children last year by dividing it. The land gifted to the three children totaled approximately 825 million KRW, each receiving 100㎡.

Deposits were calculated at 513.09 million KRW for herself and 554.41 million KRW for her spouse. The valuation of 10,000 shares of Samsung Electronics held by Minister Kang rose significantly over the year, increasing from 387 million KRW to 558 million KRW.

The assets list also included a yacht and a personal watercraft owned by Minister Kang’s spouse. The spouse owns a sailing yacht valued at 25.19 million KRW and a personal watercraft valued at 3.64 million KRW.

First Vice Foreign Minister Cho Se-young reported an apartment worth 426 million KRW located in Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul, and deposits totaling 791.38 million KRW for himself and his spouse. Second Vice Foreign Minister Lee Tae-ho reported a total of 159.57 million KRW including deposits of 147.15 million KRW for himself and his spouse.
