Employees' 'Traditional Market Visit Day' Expanded from Once to Twice a Month... Encouraging Participation of Related Organizations... ▲Suspension of Cafeteria ▲Promotion of Flower Consumption ▲Use of Stationery Stores ▲Support for Discovering Good Landlords
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dongjak-gu (Mayor Lee Chang-woo) is expanding the operation of "Traditional Market Day" to revitalize the local economy, which has been weakened due to the spread of COVID-19.
Since September last year, the district has designated the first Wednesday of every month as "Traditional Market Day" for employees, encouraging visits to traditional markets, shopping, and company dinners. Starting from the 18th, to overcome the local economic crisis caused by COVID-19, "Traditional Market Day" has been expanded to twice a month, on the first and third Wednesdays.
The target markets include five locations within the district: ▲ Namseong Sagye Market ▲ Sangdo Traditional Market ▲ Namseong Station Alley Market ▲ Seongdae Traditional Market ▲ Sadang 1-dong Food Alley Shopping District. Each department is assigned a market to visit on the designated day.
Additionally, to revitalize the local economy, since the 17th, the district has suspended the use of in-house cafeterias and is encouraging employees to have breakfast and lunch at local restaurants. Through the "Every Tuesday is Flower Day" campaign, it supports 48 local florists.
The district is also promoting the use of stationery stores near schools due to the postponement of kindergarten and elementary, middle, and high school openings caused by COVID-19. Until the scheduled reopening date on the 6th, regions have been assigned by district to encourage the use of stationery stores near schools.
The Good Landlord Project to support small business owners in the area has seen participation from 708 landlords by the 23rd, benefiting 1,698 stores.
Along with rapid budget execution, the district plans to submit a supplementary budget proposal to the council that includes ▲ strengthened support for small business owners affected by COVID-19 ▲ focused support for the recovery of the traditional market and local economy ▲ support for vulnerable groups.
Lee Chang-woo, Mayor of Dongjak-gu, said, "We will push for full support for small business owners who are struggling due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic," and added, "We hope many institutions and companies in the region will join in the warm movement to support small business owners and vulnerable groups."
