[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ga-yeon] It has been revealed that one of the operators of the Telegram chatroom 'Baksa Bang,' which threatened women including minors to produce and distribute sexual exploitation materials, is a public official.
According to the police on the 25th, among the 14 people arrested by the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency in connection with this case, one was identified as A (29), a public official at Geoje City Hall in Gyeongnam.
A was detained in January on charges including violation of the Act on the Protection of Children and Juveniles from Sexual Abuse (production and distribution of obscene materials).
The police judged that A was a key accomplice involved in operating Baksa Bang by participating in the production of child sexual exploitation materials.
The prosecution indicted A earlier last month. The Seoul Central District Court completed the preparatory procedures for the trial on this day and will begin A's trial next month.
Meanwhile, Geoje City dismissed A from his position in January. Although A still maintains his status as a public official since the criminal facts have not yet been confirmed, Geoje City plans to proceed with disciplinary actions such as dismissal if a guilty verdict is issued.
