This is because state governments have demanded the shutdown of all commercial facilities, including restaurants, hotels, and bars, amid the spread of COVID-19.
According to the Washington Post (WP) on the 24th (local time), six out of seven high-profit resorts operated by President Trump's company, including the Mar-a-Lago resort, have been closed.
This is due to the rapid increase in confirmed COVID-19 cases in the U.S. and the growing number of states ordering business suspensions. WP reported that six hotels owned by President Trump, known as a real estate tycoon, have ceased operations, and at least three of them have laid off employees.
Earlier, the Trump Hotel located in Las Vegas was also closed following the Nevada state government's order. Some employees are reported to have already been laid off.
The Trump International Hotel in Washington DC also saw a sharp drop in reservation rates, resulting in about 160 employees being laid off.
The annual revenue of these six facilities amounts to a total of $174 million (approximately 213.8 billion KRW).
WP reported that due to the unprecedented event of COVID-19, President Trump, both a businessman and president, is being threatened in both areas.
Meanwhile, as the U.S. government prepares bailout plans for the hotel industry, which is in crisis due to COVID-19, President Trump has not disclosed whether his own hotels will apply for bailout funds.
