[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Jeong-hoon) has published the civil-government cooperative integrated case management activity casebook titled "Embracing Happiness with Hope," which contains stories of neighbors in difficulty finding hope through crisis family case management in 2019.
This casebook includes the integrated case management progress over the past year, storytelling-style success cases of crisis families, and welfare support goodwill stories. It also provides a glimpse into the case management activities of social welfare officers from the district office, community service centers, and private organizations.
Since 2013, Gangdong-gu has published an annual civil-government integrated case management activity casebook. Through this casebook, officers share know-how helpful for performing welfare duties, and residents in need gain hope by learning from the success stories contained within.
One family case featured in the casebook involved a subject who lost one leg due to an unexpected accident, relied on alcohol after two divorces, and was raising a child alone. The child was also struggling to adapt to school life and had dropped out of middle school. However, with integrated case management support, the child gradually changed, and after a long time, successfully entered high school, a success story included in the book.
Other stories include housing support for a family of four who stayed long-term in a motel with a mother suffering from cancer, public guardianship support for a dementia-afflicted elderly living alone, and cleaning support for a hoarding disorder subject living alone with a disability. These stories reflect the joint efforts of civil and government welfare officers in case management.
Notably, the district included in this casebook educational programs aimed at enhancing communication and professional capabilities between civil and government sectors to overcome welfare recipients' crises. Additionally, social welfare events that provided mutual comfort and strength were featured on a page of the casebook.
Gangdong-gu plans to publish 300 copies of the casebook for use as integrated case management materials and distribute them to public institutions such as the Ministry of Health and Welfare, Seoul City, local governments, and welfare facilities within the region.
Lee Jeong-hoon, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, stated, "I hope this activity casebook will serve as an opportunity to share know-how in crisis family case management and welfare work while offering mutual comfort and encouragement." He added, "We will continue to strengthen case management support through civil-government cooperation to help residents in difficulty regain stable and healthy lives."
Gangdong-gu plans to secure various case management resources by discovering new collaborative organizations, expanding the solution committee for community case management support, and providing civil-government case management capacity-building education. Through these efforts, the district aims to offer systematic and professional customized welfare services to residents in need.
