[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Dobong-gu (Mayor Dongjin Lee) will distribute hand sanitizers for the second time starting from the 20th to a total of 698 apartment and villa complexes with elevators installed in the area to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Elevators in multi-unit housing are enclosed spaces used by many people, making them one of the vulnerable places for COVID-19 infection.

Previously, to prevent community transmission, the district distributed 2,000 hand sanitizers donated by religious organizations and 2,400 hand sanitizers secured by the district itself to apartments, villas, and other multi-unit housing complexes as the first distribution starting from the 4th.

As COVID-19 prolongs and small-scale group infections continue in the metropolitan area, to ease residents' concerns, starting from March 20, the district is conducting a second distribution of 4,000 hand sanitizers to be placed in 2,422 elevators across 698 apartment and villa complexes with elevators in the area.

In addition, on March 13, the district placed 200 hand sanitizers at 191 bus stops, and on March 18, 90 hand sanitizers were installed at 45 outdoor exercise equipment locations along the Jungnangcheon Stream. From March 23, 150 hand sanitizers are being installed at 99 bicycle racks.

In particular, to prevent the spread of group infections occurring in enclosed indoor spaces, starting from March 20, the district visited 69 goshiwon (small dormitory-style rooms) in the area, delivering 100 hand sanitizers along with COVID-19 prevention guideline leaflets.

Also, from March 13, the district has been visiting 179 singing practice rooms and 78 PC rooms in the area to inspect quarantine systems and distributing a total of about 1,000 disinfectants, including three spray-type sterilizers and one hand sanitizer per business.

Mayor Dongjin Lee of Dobong-gu said, “Residents have been very concerned about using elevators due to the spread of COVID-19, but I hope everyone will wear masks and use hand sanitizers with consideration for each other when using elevators. The district will continue to make every effort to prevent the spread of group infections in the area, and I ask residents to actively participate in the intensive social distancing campaign (March 22 to April 5) for the early end of COVID-19.”
