[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Lim Juhyung] SBS '8 News' has disclosed the personal information of Jo Joo-bin (25), the key suspect in the so-called 'Telegram Nth Room' case, who produced sexual exploitation materials involving minors and women and distributed them for a fee using secret Telegram messenger rooms.
On the afternoon of the 23rd, SBS '8 News' revealed Jo's name, age, and other personal details, as well as the circumstances that led to his crimes.
According to the broadcast, Jo graduated from university in 2018. During his university years, he was active in the school newspaper and served as editor-in-chief. His academic performance was excellent, with an average GPA exceeding 4.0 in three out of four semesters, earning him multiple scholarships.
It is understood that Jo began his criminal activities immediately after graduation. He initially engaged in fraudulent schemes by posting false advertisements on Telegram claiming to sell firearms and drugs to swindle money. From September of last year, he created the Telegram 'Doctor Room' and started distributing sexual exploitation materials.
Meanwhile, the police plan to hold a 'Personal Information Disclosure Review Committee' on the 24th to decide whether to disclose Jo's personal information.
However, SBS stated, "We have judged that this case is a brutal sexual crime targeting youth and a serious offense that has left irreversible scars on the victims. To assist the investigation and uphold the public's right to know, we have decided to disclose the face and name of the detained suspect along with our exclusive coverage in this broadcast."
