First 2.5 Million Won per Opening for Basic Local Governments
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Jamin] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Seo Daeseok) announced on the 23rd that it will provide subsidies to private charging operators installing fast chargers to expand electric vehicle charging infrastructure.
To this end, Seo-gu has secured a project budget of 10 million KRW and plans to support the expansion of electric vehicle charging infrastructure at a total of 4 locations, providing 2.5 million KRW per site, making it the first basic local government to do so.
The support targets are private charging operators selected as recipients of subsidies under the Korea Energy Agency’s ‘7th 2019 and 2020 Electric Vehicle Charging Service Industry Promotion Project.’
These include gas stations, convenience stores, and restaurants within Seo-gu that have parking spaces capable of installing fast chargers.
Applications for support will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until the project budget is exhausted.
Applications can be submitted in person or by mail. For eligibility, application forms, and other detailed information, please refer to the announcement on the district’s website or contact the Climate and Environment Division.
A Seo-gu official stated, “Although the district’s finances are limited, we plan to continuously expand charging infrastructure, starting with support for two private fast charging facilities last year,” adding, “We will strive to make Seo-gu known as a convenient place for electric vehicle charging.”
