Blood Supply Shortage Due to COVID-19!... Songpa-gu Launches Love Blood Donation Campaign

[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Songpa-gu (Mayor Park Seong-su) will conduct a "Love Blood Donation Campaign" on the 24th to alleviate the blood supply shortage caused by the spread of COVID-19.

Recently, as individual and group blood donations sharply declined due to the COVID-19 situation, the Korean Red Cross issued an appeal last month, stating that they are facing great difficulties in blood supply and requesting participation in blood donation.

Accordingly, Songpa-gu will join the blood donation effort to save precious lives and overcome the national crisis together.

This "Love Blood Donation Campaign" will be held on the 24th from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Korean Red Cross blood donation vehicle in front of Songpa-gu Office.

Public officials from Songpa-gu Office and community service centers, social service agents, public workers, employees of affiliated organizations, as well as residents, can all participate in the blood donation. The district is also actively encouraging employees and residents visiting the district office to participate.

On this day, 227 people including Park Seong-su, Mayor of Songpa-gu, district executives, and staff plan to participate. According to the district, in response to the urgent need for blood supply this year due to COVID-19, voluntary participation applications from employees have more than doubled compared to last year.

With continued active applications, the district has allocated additional blood donation vehicles and plans to conduct blood donations using a total of three vehicles.

The district will thoroughly disinfect the blood donation vehicles in advance to ensure the event proceeds safely. Additionally, before donating blood, participants will undergo preventive measures such as wearing masks, hand sanitizing, temperature checks, medical interviews, and consultations on the first floor of the main building of the district office.

Since signing the "Love Blood Donation Agreement" with the Korean Red Cross in 2014, Songpa-gu has conducted group blood donations targeting employees every March. The district plans to continue the "Love Blood Donation Campaign" to help blood supply and save precious lives.

Park Seong-su, Mayor of Songpa-gu, stated, "Through this 'Love Blood Donation Campaign,' we aim to contribute to stabilizing the blood supply," adding, "In difficult times, we will wisely overcome the COVID-19 crisis by gathering warm hearts together with employees and residents."
