SNS Welcome Messages for Korea-US Currency Swap Deal... "A Welcome News on the Day of Announcing Livelihood Financial Stability Policy"

[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Jeong-min] President Moon Jae-in stated through an SNS message on the 20th that "South Korea and the United States have signed a currency swap agreement worth 60 billion dollars for the first time in 11 years," and evaluated it as "welcome news that came on the day the first emergency economic meeting was held to announce unprecedented livelihood and financial stability policies."

President Moon said, "It will greatly help stabilize the domestic foreign exchange market." In particular, he encouraged "the Bank of Korea, which led the 'international cooperation,' and the Ministry of Economy and Finance, which actively supported this and engaged in 'domestic cooperation,'" emphasizing that "this is the fruit of the sense of mission of the 'Economic Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters' during an extraordinary time."

President Moon evaluated, "The Bank of Korea has strengthened its status by responsibly responding to various economic situations based on its independence and expertise as a central bank, and I believe this achievement is also a result of that. Thank you for your hard work."

President Moon said, "The public will feel reassured by this achievement made through cooperation between monetary authorities and fiscal authorities. I also express gratitude to the United States for demonstrating leadership as a key currency country," adding, "The government will establish strong measures to stabilize the bond and stock markets following the stabilization of the foreign exchange market."
