At Sinchon Boxquare, Young Entrepreneurs Nurture Their Dreams

[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Seodaemun-gu (Mayor Moon Seok-jin) is actively promoting the '2020 Regional and Industry Customized Job Creation Support Project' led by the Ministry of Employment and Labor and the '2020 Food Service Startup Incubating Project' led by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs at Sinchon Box Square (22-5 Sinchon Station-ro).

Sinchon Box Square, opened by Seodaemun-gu in September 2018 to support youth startups and revitalize the local commercial district, is located in front of Sinchon Station on the Gyeongui-Jungang Line. The first floor houses street vendors, while the second and third floors provide startup spaces for young entrepreneurs.

The district, in cooperation with the Korea Sharing Economy Promotion Agency, has so far enabled 16 youth teams with innovative ideas to move into Sinchon Box Square, creating jobs for 41 young people up to last year.

This year, as the 'Youth Partner 3rd Generation,' seven teams were selected: ▲Ethstone (initial engraving accessories) ▲Neoui Jageun Bangatgan (misutgaru, grains) ▲Unniene Yangsikdang (steak, pasta) ▲Flower Dalha (flower therapy) ▲Urihwa (Korean painting handicrafts) ▲Oullie (bakery) ▲Chunky Pie (meat pie).

Additionally, the district, in collaboration with Ewha Womans University and E-Food Lab, was selected for the second consecutive year as the implementing agency in the '2020 Food Service Startup Incubating Project' competition hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.

This year, nine teams composed of youth and university students were selected to operate the Youth Growth Restaurants sequentially for 1 to 3 months on the first and second floors of Sinchon Box Square. They will be provided with store space, consulting, and startup education programs.

The 'Vegibear' team, which opened last April, gained popularity with vegetarian menus and was also selected as the Youth Partner 2nd Generation at Sinchon Box Square. Other participants have found employment in related fields.

The seven teams of the 'Youth Partner 3rd Generation' and the nine teams of the 'Youth Growth Restaurants' selected this year are scheduled to open from the 23rd of this month. Seodaemun-gu aims to further solidify its customized youth startup programs to create high-quality jobs and revitalize the local commercial district.
