Gangdong-gu Uses Big Data Analysis to Prevent COVID-19

Gangdong-gu Uses Big Data Analysis to Prevent COVID-19

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Jeong-hoon) is identifying priority COVID-19 quarantine areas through big data analysis and has independently created a public mask purchase location map to minimize gaps in health safety and administrative inefficiency.

The district identified March as the intensive quarantine period. Analyzing the floating population in the first half of last year, the average daily floating population in April was 449,703, significantly higher than the monthly average of 386,287.

The district plans to implement intensive quarantine measures during March in preparation for the sharp increase in the floating population in April.

Nine priority quarantine areas have been identified. These include exits 2 and 6 of Cheonho Station, Amsa Station, Myeongil Station, Gildong Station, Gildong Intersection, Cheonho Elementary School, Gangdong Kyung Hee University Hospital, and the area around Gubeundari Station. This was determined by analyzing floating population, bus boarding and alighting numbers, density of quarantine-targeted facilities such as academies and PC rooms, and confirmed patient visit locations.

The district plans to thoroughly manage quarantine in these areas derived from big data analysis by continuously incorporating new information such as the movement paths of newly confirmed cases.

Gangdong-gu has also independently developed and is providing the ‘Gangdong-gu Public Mask Smart Map.’ It offers information on the locations and sales hours of public mask purchase points (pharmacies), accessible via the Gangdong-gu Office website and the site (http://gbp.gangdong.go.kr/mask).

Lee Jeong-hoon, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, stated, “Although the spread of COVID-19 has somewhat slowed, sporadic small-scale cluster infections can pose a significant risk to the community. We will use fourth industrial revolution technologies such as big data to proactively prepare for community infections and manage them efficiently to protect the health and safety of residents.”
