Park Hyung-chul, former Blue House Anti-Corruption Secretary
[Asia Economy Reporter Son Seon-hee] Former Blue House Anti-Corruption Secretary Park Hyung-chul, who retired last December, reported assets totaling 944.82 million KRW. This is 94.11 million KRW less than the previous declaration.
The Government Official Ethics Committee published the asset registration details of 75 current and former high-ranking officials who were appointed or retired in December last year in the official gazette on the 20th. The subjects included 10 new appointees, 11 promotions, and 52 retirees.
Former Secretary Park reported the value of his apartment in Songpa-gu, Seoul, which he owns, increased by 64 million KRW to 952 million KRW. Additionally, the total deposits held by his family decreased from 220.68 million KRW to 183.16 million KRW. He explained that the decrease in deposits was due to "living expenses and loan interest payments."
He also reported debts totaling 381.56 million KRW, including 160 million KRW in securities held by his spouse.
Lee Myung-shin, who was appointed as the Anti-Corruption Secretary last December as Park’s successor, reported total assets of 3.08098 billion KRW. This is the third highest amount among the current officials subject to this interim asset disclosure.
Secretary Lee, a former lawyer at Kim & Chang Law Firm, reported an apartment in Bundang, Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province, jointly owned with his spouse, valued at 1.23 billion KRW. Deposits totaled 1.82667 billion KRW, including 1.52286 billion KRW held by himself and 293.56 million KRW by his spouse.
Among the current officials subject to this interim asset disclosure, Yoon Tae-yong, President of the Korea Copyright Protection Agency under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, had the highest assets at 4.09267 billion KRW. He was followed by Lee Tae-heung, Standing Member of the Special Investigation Committee on the Humidifier Disinfectant Incident and the April 16 Sewol Ferry Disaster, with 3.91352 billion KRW.
Among retirees, Kwak Byung-sung, former President of the Korea Institute of Energy Technology under the Ministry of Science and ICT, had the highest assets at 6.07148 billion KRW, followed by Min Won-gi, former 2nd Vice Minister of the Ministry of Science and ICT, with 5.44192 billion KRW, and Yoo Jae-cheol, former Commissioner of the Central Regional Tax Office at the National Tax Service, with 4.73087 billion KRW.
