Jungnang-gu 'Jungnang Hakdang' Reading Club Leader Training

[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) is recruiting 40 participants for the ‘Jungnang Academy (Reading Club Discussion Leader Training Course)’ to promote a reading discussion culture led by local residents.

Any resident interested in reading clubs and discussions can participate. Registration will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis starting at 9 a.m. on the 18th through the Jungnang-gu Office website.

This course is an introductory program for training reading club leaders, conducted by Choi Byung-il, the head instructor of the reading community ‘Sungnyemun Hakdang,’ with a total of 8 sessions, each lasting 2 hours per week.

Participants will understand the three elements of reading discussions?facts, evidence, and claims?and practice reading discussions, learning what more multidimensional reading means beyond simply reading books.

Notably, it offers an experience of a ‘non-competitive reading discussion model’ where participants share thoughts and values about books rather than engaging in competitive debates with others.

Jungnang-gu is leading the establishment of a reading culture in daily life through the ‘2020 Reading Jungnang Project’ this year, promoting reading enjoyment together.

The three main focus tasks are ▲operating life-cycle tailored programs ▲discovering reading activists ▲building cooperative networks, with ‘Jungnang Academy’ being part of the ‘discovering reading activists’ initiative.

Additionally, various projects will be pursued, such as transforming idle spaces in small libraries into shared spaces to create reading activity hubs and training village librarians.

Ryu Kyung-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, stated, “Through this reading club discussion leader training course, part of the ‘Reading Jungnang Project,’ I hope all residents who love books can experience the joy of reading not as solitary, lonely readers but as social readers together.”
