[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Lim Juhyung] A couple in their 60s from Hongseong, Chungnam, who traveled to Egypt, has tested positive for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
Chungnam Province announced on the 17th that the couple, A (64) and B (62), were confirmed as the first COVID-19 cases in the Hongseong area. This brings the total number of confirmed cases in Chungnam to 118.
The two traveled to Egypt from the 23rd of last month to the 2nd of this month. It is also known that they transited through Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Istanbul, Turkey during their trip.
Health authorities are focusing on the possibility that the couple was infected through contact with infected foreigners during their travels and are tracing the infection route.
Chungnam Province and Hongseong County are also investigating the couple’s contacts and movement paths after their return, as well as whether they traveled with others abroad.
