[Asia Economy Reporter Joselgina] Apple has decided to close all its stores worldwide except in China "until further notice" as the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) situation shows no signs of easing.

According to the financial news channel CNBC, Apple announced this policy on its website on the 17th (local time). Previously, Apple had announced that it would close all Apple Stores worldwide except in China until the 27th. CNBC reported that Apple has now extended this period indefinitely, making it unclear when Apple Stores will resume operations.

There are a total of 460 Apple stores located outside of China. The Apple Garosugil store operating in Korea also began temporary closure from mid-month.

Apple stated, "Stores will remain closed until further notice," and explained, "Customers who wish to purchase or repair Apple products can do so online or by phone."

Apple judged that the most effective way to prevent the spread of COVID-19 is social distancing, and made this decision to protect employees and customers. In China, where COVID-19 first broke out, all 42 stores have resumed operations after the store closures in February.
