Social Distancing... Yongsan-gu Conducts Staff Training via YouTube Welfare Academy Non-Face-to-Face Education

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Yongsan-gu (District Mayor Seongjang Hyun) is implementing non-face-to-face (online) education for the 'Welfare Academy' as part of 'social distancing' measures in response to the spread of COVID-19.

The training will take place on the 19th from 9:50 AM to 11:30 AM and will cover ▲methods for identifying and managing crisis households ▲how to use the Social Security Information System (Happiness e-um) ▲support measures for COVID-19 confirmed and self-quarantined households ▲and a Q&A session, lasting 1 hour and 40 minutes.

The training targets 20 people, including employees of the district welfare policy department and newly appointed social welfare public officials at the community service centers. Officer Ion-yu from the Welfare Policy Department will conduct the live lecture via YouTube (www.youtube.com).

Before the training, the district guided participants through preliminary procedures such as installing the Chrome browser and signing up for a Google account. The district's Welfare Policy Department YouTube channel was also pre-established. Once the training begins, participants can attend the session individually on their computers.

Discussions between instructors and participants can also be conducted through real-time chat.

The district operates the Welfare Academy once quarterly to strengthen the work capabilities of district and community social workers and private case management personnel. This is the first time the training is being held online. The district plans to continue the non-face-to-face academy until the crisis situation ends.

Seongjang Hyun, Mayor of Yongsan-gu, said, “We are conducting social worker training online to prevent the spread of COVID-19,” and added, “We will continuously strive to improve customized welfare services.”

In addition to online education, the district is leading social distancing efforts through various measures such as closing multi-use facilities, installing transparent partitions at civil service counters and district cafeterias, minimizing rest areas within government buildings, and implementing staggered use of district cafeterias.
