[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kang Juhee] The unfortunate recent situation of actor Im Young-gyu has been revealed.
On the 13th, Im Young-gyu appeared on MBN's current affairs program 'Field Report Exclusive World' and disclosed that he has squandered his fortune and is now living by cleaning churches.
Im Young-gyu said, "I was evicted because I fell behind on jjimjilbang fees and ended up homeless in a park, but I met a missionary on the subway. I am living by doing cleaning work at a church," adding, "With the help of the building owner, I am living in a one-room apartment at half the price."
On the broadcast that day, Im Young-gyu said, "It felt like everything ended after my divorce. The Gangnam building my father left me was worth an enormous amount, 16.5 billion won in 1993," and confessed, "I inherited the estate and lived a luxurious life in the United States, but due to business failures, I squandered all my assets within two years and six months."
He later revealed that he relied on alcohol due to emptiness. "After losing everything, I couldn't sleep at night, so I drank a bottle of soju to fall asleep," he said, "I started drinking more and more and developed alcoholic dementia."
Now, Im Young-gyu, who said, "I'm glad I quit drinking," showed his one-room apartment and said, "Compared to the 5,000-pyeong place I used to live in the U.S., this is really unbelievable, but I like it now."
Im Young-gyu debuted as a theater actor in 1975 and officially debuted as an MBC 12th class public talent in 1980. He married actress Kyeon Mi-ri in 1987 but divorced in 1993.
