HNT Aims to Lead Autonomous Driving Technology by Inheriting Waymo's Expertise

[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunseok Yoo] Amid statistics showing that Waymo ranked first in autonomous driving technology last year, HNT, which recruited Sean Stewart, Chief Business Officer (CBO) of Google Waymo, is also gaining attention. HNT plans to aim for industry leadership through Waymo's autonomous driving technology and diverse networks.

According to related industries on the 16th, the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) recently released the 'disengagement' index, which shows how often drivers intervened while companies authorized to test autonomous vehicles in California in 2019 operated vehicles on public roads.

In the released data, Waymo ranked first, surpassing General Motors (GM), Toyota, Tesla, and others. Waymo showed a disengagement frequency of once every 21,273 times during 2.33 million km of public road driving with 153 vehicles and 268 drivers deployed last year.

As Waymo's outstanding autonomous driving technology gained attention, HNT, which entered the autonomous driving business as a new venture, is also attracting interest.

HNT, a camera module specialist company, entered the autonomous driving business last year by appointing Thierry Morin, chairman of the French autonomous driving specialist company Valeo, as the overall chairman. It also established the AI subsidiary 'Panoptics Industry' in the United States to challenge overseas markets.

In particular, HNT, which is solidifying its position by acquiring the global autonomous driving company UMO and the domestic autonomous driving mobility specialist MDE, appointed Sean Stewart, former Chief Business Officer of Google Waymo, as an inside director and Chief Technology Officer (CTO).
