Naju-si Launches 'Eco-friendly Agricultural Products Package for Pregnant Women' in Full Swing

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Han-hyuk] Naju City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Kang In-gyu) announced on the 12th that it has officially launched the ‘Eco-friendly Agricultural Products Package Support Project for Pregnant Women’ to provide balanced nutrition to pregnant women and promote the consumption of local agricultural products.

This project was established thanks to the selection of the ‘Eco-friendly Agricultural Products Support Project for Pregnant Women,’ a new pilot project announced last year by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.

With a self-payment of 96,000 KRW, the project supports local eco-friendly agricultural products for pregnant women and children who are nutritionally vulnerable before and after childbirth for one year.

Previously, on the 11th, the city began the first delivery of eco-friendly agricultural product packages consisting of 5 to 9 items such as fresh vegetables, antibiotic-free eggs, and organic seaweed.

The support target for the eco-friendly agricultural product packages are pregnant women after January 1 of this year and mothers within 12 months after childbirth.

So far, there have been 115 applicants for the project. Those who wish to apply can fill out the application form for eco-friendly agricultural product support for pregnant women posted on the city hall website and submit it along with a pregnancy confirmation or birth certificate to the administrative welfare center of their local eup, myeon, or dong.

However, pregnant women with a household income below 80% of the median income who are currently receiving support from the existing Nutrition Plus project are excluded from eligibility.

Those who previously received support from the Nutrition Plus project but are not eligible at the time of application can apply.

Pregnant women confirmed as eligible will receive 480,000 KRW worth of Nonghyup Mall points, usable for up to 12 months after childbirth, upon payment of the 96,000 KRW self-payment.

They can select various eco-friendly agricultural product packages that do not use pesticides or chemical fertilizers on the ‘Nonghyup Mall website’ and have them delivered to their homes.

Mayor Kang In-gyu said, “This project is expected to have a twofold effect of revitalizing the distribution and consumption of local agricultural products, which have been depressed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and providing healthy and safe food to local pregnant women. We will enhance satisfaction by thoroughly monitoring food quality and focusing on diversifying seasonal items to supply high-quality eco-friendly agricultural products.”
