[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] A man in his 20s who strangled his ex-girlfriend to death after an argument over breaking up has been brought to trial. His current girlfriend, who participated in the disposal of the body, has also been indicted.
The Incheon District Prosecutors' Office's Violent Crime and Forensic Investigation Division (Chief Prosecutor Kim Tae-woon) announced on the 12th that A (28, male) was arrested and indicted on charges of murder and corpse disposal, and A's current girlfriend B (25) was indicted on charges of corpse disposal.
A is accused of repeatedly punching the face of his ex-girlfriend C (29) and strangling her to death around 10 a.m. on January 12 this year at a villa in Gangseo-gu, Seoul.
After the crime, he left C's body in the villa for four days, then on the 15th of the same month, loaded it into a vehicle and moved to Incheon, where he abandoned it near the road by Moksanggyo Bridge on the Gyeongin Ara Waterway.
When discovered, C's body was inside a burlap sack, somewhat decomposed but reportedly without signs of mutilation.
A told the police, "I strangled my ex-girlfriend in a fit of anger after arguing over breaking up," and "I left the body inside the house because I didn't know what to do after killing her."
He also sent a text message from C's phone to C's father saying, "Don't worry," after strangling C to death.
B is accused of assisting in the disposal of the body by riding in A's vehicle. A prosecution official stated, "Based on objective evidence, B's involvement in the murder was not recognized, so she was indicted for corpse disposal.".
