Barogo Sees Increase in Prepayment Ratio Since COVID-19 Outbreak

"Protecting the Health of Both Riders and Consumers in Contactless Delivery... Request for 'Prepayment'"

Barogo Sees Increase in Prepayment Ratio Since COVID-19 Outbreak

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] Due to the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), the proportion of prepaid orders for delivery food has increased, while on-site payments have decreased.

Delivery startup Barogo (CEO Lee Tae-kwon) announced on the 12th that an analysis of the 'payment methods of delivery order customers' from the recent week of the 4th to the 10th showed that the share of prepaid orders increased by 6 percentage points compared to before the COVID-19 outbreak (January 4 to January 10). On-site payments decreased from 43% to 37% during the same period.

This is interpreted as consumers preferring prepaid methods for contactless delivery orders after the COVID-19 outbreak, along with the influence of each delivery app’s prepaid inducement 'Safe Delivery Campaign.' A Barogo official said, "It can protect the health of both riders working on the front lines of contactless delivery and consumers," adding, "We ask for prepaid orders through delivery apps for contactless delivery."

Meanwhile, Barogo is making every effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19 by urgently supplying 30,000 masks primarily to the Daegu and Gyeongbuk regions and forming and operating an in-house 'COVID-19 Emergency Response Committee.' They share confirmed patient movement paths with regional hubs and recommend testing to riders who have delivered along those routes as a proactive measure. Additionally, they provide livelihood support funds to riders who become infected with COVID-19 during delivery or show suspected symptoms and are instructed to self-isolate by health authorities. Even riders who have not received official self-isolation orders but have been advised to self-isolate as a proactive company measure are eligible for the same support.
