Chungnam Fire Department Receives 119 Calls Every 49 Seconds... Increase in Emergency Medical Service Calls

[Asia Economy (Naepo) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] In the Chungnam region, it was recorded that 119 emergency calls were received at a rate of one call every 49 seconds last year.


According to the analysis of 119 call reception by the Chungnam Fire Headquarters on the 9th, a total of 644,107 119 calls were received in the region last year. This is a 3.7% increase compared to the previous year (620,947 calls).


In particular, the average number of calls per 100 residents (30 calls) ranked second nationwide, following Jeju-do (31 calls). It was also found that one situation officer in the province handled 13,419 calls annually, which is 1,616 calls (13.7%) more than the national average of 11,803 calls.


The number of calls received by type was tallied as follows: ▲ Ambulance calls 124,937 ▲ Medical consultations 38,684 ▲ Rescue calls 33,667 ▲ Fire calls 27,928. Other calls accounted for 418,855.


When converted to hourly rates for fire, rescue, and ambulance calls, ambulance calls were the most frequent at one call every 4 minutes, followed by rescue calls at one call every 15 minutes, and fire calls at one call every 18 minutes.


Monthly status analysis showed that calls were concentrated in August (72,215 calls) and September (70,930 calls), when typhoons and heavy rains were prevalent. Additionally, by day of the week, Saturdays had the highest call frequency, and by time of day, calls were most frequent between 1 PM and 2 PM.


The fire stations with the highest number of calls last year were Asan Fire Station with 64,412 calls, Cheonan Seobuk Fire Station with 60,957 calls, Cheonan Dongnam Fire Station with 54,565 calls, Seosan Fire Station with 42,325 calls, and Dangjin Fire Station with 38,883 calls.


A representative from the provincial fire headquarters stated, “For residents waiting for firefighters, only prompt and accurate dispatch is the best.” He added, “We will strive to become Chungnam Fire that can arrive quickly on site through strengthening the capabilities of situation officers, ensuring residents’ safety and protection of property.”
