[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Yeon-ju] Hong Hye-gul, CEO of the medical channel Biondwi, criticized the government's self-praise as a "world model" in response to the COVID-19 situation on the 9th, saying, "They are cheering while arbitrarily switching causes and effects."
On the same day, Hong said in a post on his Facebook, "How can such an absurd statement come out at this point? It's because they have something to rely on," expressing his opinion.
He pointed out, "There are quite a few people who mentally triumph by changing the world's number one 'infected' count per capita to the world's number one 'tested' count," adding, "They are cheering while arbitrarily switching causes and effects, saying that there are many suspected infections, so there are many tests."
He continued, "There are far too many people insisting that beans are red beans," and said, "At this point, for my mental health, I will stop following COVID-related Facebook posts. I hope our country does well."
Earlier, on the 8th, Hong Hye-gul also criticized the government's lukewarm response regarding the debate over banning arrivals from China.
He said, "If the ban on arrivals from China was not implemented due to high-level issues such as the economy or diplomacy rather than medicine, although I do not agree, I am willing to understand and cooperate as a citizen," but added, "However, I cannot understand experts who say it 'does not help quarantine at all' for the sake of their own faction's interests."
He continued, "What on earth did they learn in medical school? Blocking the inflow of infection sources is the basis of quarantine, yet they are still misleading the public with all sorts of petty excuses," and added, "To them, quarantine experts in other countries around the world must all look like fools."
