[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] Renault Samsung Motors will begin customer deliveries of the compact sport utility vehicle (SUV) ‘XM3’ starting from the 9th.
As of the day before the customer delivery commencement, XM3 recorded a cumulative contract volume of an impressive 8,542 units. Notably, there was a high preference for premium specifications. Customers who chose the downsized direct injection gasoline turbo engine TCe 260, co-developed with Daimler, accounted for 84% of all contracts, and those who selected the top-tier trim TCe 260 RE Signature made up an overwhelming 76% of total contracts.
The main reason behind this contract trend is the extensive application of features that were previously unavailable in competing vehicles of the same class. All trims come standard with ▲electronic parking brake ▲paddle shifters ▲one-touch safety power windows for all seats ▲LED Pure Vision headlamps, while the highest RE Signature trim also includes ▲Easy Connect 9.3” navigation ▲10.25-inch map-in cluster ▲and Auto Hold as standard features.
Additionally, the XM3’s silhouette, created by the lowest body height (1570mm) and the highest ground clearance (186mm) in its class, is sleek like a sedan yet robust like an SUV. The sufficiently secured ground clearance not only provides an SUV-appropriate exterior but also ensures a wide driving view. The trunk capacity of 513 liters is also the largest in its class.
The TCe 260 engine, co-developed with Daimler, is a new 4-cylinder 1.3ℓ gasoline direct injection turbo engine that boasts excellent driving quality. This engine is expected to become a mainstay for the Renault Group. The combined fuel efficiency of the TCe 260 is 13.7 km/ℓ, adding top-level economy in its class.
Price competitiveness is also a strength. The XM3 prices are as follows: 1.6 GTe ▲SE trim at 17.19 million KRW ▲LE trim at 19.39 million KRW ▲LE Plus trim at 21.40 million KRW; TCe 260 ▲LE trim at 20.83 million KRW ▲RE trim at 22.93 million KRW ▲RE Signature trim at 25.32 million KRW (based on 1.5% individual consumption tax).
Kim Taejun, Head of Sales at Renault Samsung Motors, said, “We are grateful to all customers who made it possible to start strong with a cumulative contract volume of 8,542 units at the time of customer delivery commencement,” adding, “We will do our best to enable more customers to have more experiences through the XM3.”
