[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Seon-ae] Samyang Foods announced on the 9th that it will launch a new product in its online brand Bul-taneun series, "Bul-taneun Gochu Bibim-myeon" (Spicy Pepper Bibim Noodles).
Bul-taneun Gochu Bibim-myeon is the third product introduced in the Bul-taneun series following Gochu Jjajang and Gochu Jjamppong. Unlike the previous products that emphasized a smoky flavor using chili oil, this product highlights a savory taste by using sesame seeds instead of chili oil.
The bibim sauce is made spicy and tangy-sweet by adding vinegar and apple-pear concentrate to Taeyangcho gochujang (sun-dried red pepper paste), and the flavor is enhanced with flakes of Cheongyang chili peppers and roasted sesame seeds. Additionally, thin noodles suitable for cold bibim noodles are used to provide a chewy texture and to allow the sauce to adhere well. The packaging uses a sky-blue color to emphasize the diverse and bold identity of the Bul-taneun series.
Bul-taneun Gochu Bibim-myeon is available for purchase at Samyang Mat Shop and Cookat Market. The recommended retail price is 1,300 won.
A Samyang Foods representative stated, "We plan to strengthen our bibim-myeon lineup and actively target the bibim-myeon market this summer," adding, "Following Yeolmu Bibim-myeon and Bul-taneun Gochu Bibim-myeon, we will soon introduce a new bibim-myeon product."
The Bul-taneun series, launched online-only in October last year, has expanded its offline sales channels due to word-of-mouth popularity, entering convenience stores and, as of last month, Homeplus stores.
