[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Seul-gi] Former Dongyang University professor Jin Joong-kwon criticized some Protestant groups who forcibly held worship services on the 8th, calling them "worse than Shincheonji."
On that day, Jin posted on his Facebook, saying, "Their private faith could endanger public safety, yet they show not even a speck of consciousness to consider society and others," expressing his criticism.
He pointed out, "Those people will probably boast that they kept their faith even amid the COVID-19 pandemic once this situation passes," adding, "This blind faith saddens us."
He also remarked, "Generally, the more a religion is a cult, the stronger its tendency to conflict with society's universal norms. Indeed, in South Korea, there are said to be twenty Gods, fifty Second Comings of Jesus, even a Second Coming David, and Elijah the prophet who ascended in a chariot is said to have come down again."
He added, "Such blind faith in parts of the Christian community has become the foundation for the proliferation of numerous heresies, including Shincheonji."
Earlier, the government and some local governments urged Protestant and religious groups to hold home worship services to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the community. However, some Protestant churches forcibly held weekend services last weekend, drawing criticism.
