[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] In Busan, 16 days after the first confirmed case of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), there were no additional confirmed cases reported for the first time in a single day.

According to Busan Metropolitan City on the 8th, the cumulative number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Busan is 89, including 2 patients from other cities and provinces (96 according to the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention statistics). Among them, 9 have been discharged, and 80 are receiving inpatient treatment.

Among the confirmed cases, the 71st patient, a 79-year-old male, and the 80th patient, a 68-year-old male, are in critical condition and are receiving ventilator treatment. Both are reported to have had underlying respiratory diseases. Additionally, about 10 patients are showing symptoms of pneumonia.

Furthermore, one 38-year-old pregnant woman tested positive for COVID-19 the day before and was admitted to Busan National University Hospital. She is currently receiving treatment from specialized medical staff for high-risk pregnancies and infectious disease experts.

The pregnant woman was tested after her husband, who works in Daegu, was confirmed positive, and it was confirmed that she did not experience any COVID-19 related symptoms herself.

The cumulative number of self-quarantined individuals in the Busan area is 3,136, with 521 currently in self-quarantine as of the 8th. Two weeks after the first confirmed case, most of the group quarantines related to the Oncheon Church, where a large-scale cluster outbreak occurred, and patients from the Asiad Nursing Hospital, where group quarantine was lifted, have been removed from the quarantine list.
