[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ji-hee] As of 10 a.m. on the 8th, the Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that the number of confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) increased by 8 from the previous day to a total of 120. Among them, 28 patients have recovered and been discharged.


According to the 'Seoul COVID-19 Occurrence Status' on the day, the newly confirmed cases include a 7-year-old elementary school student residing in Gwanak-gu, a 56-year-old male office worker living in Gangnam-gu who was tested in Dongjak-gu, and a 65-year-old male resident of Seocho-gu who was a contact of an existing patient. One confirmed case each was added in Seongbuk-gu, Eunpyeong-gu, Gwanak-gu, Seocho-gu, and Gangnam-gu, while two new confirmed cases were reported in Yangcheon-gu.


By autonomous district, Songpa-gu had the highest number of confirmed cases with 12, followed by Jongno-gu and Gangnam-gu (11 each), Nowon-gu and Eunpyeong-gu (8 each), Seocho-gu and Gangbuk-gu (6 each). No confirmed cases have been reported yet in Jung-gu.


Regarding the causes of infection, the largest group was 15 confirmed cases related to overseas contact, including Wuhan, China, and Italy. Those related to Eunpyeong St. Mary's Hospital numbered 14, and 13 were related to a residential-commercial complex in Seongdong-gu. Among those related to the Seongdong-gu residential-commercial complex, 2 were resident infections within the building, 4 were management office staff, and 7 were family infections with addresses in other autonomous districts.


Following these were 10 cases related to Jongno-gu, 9 related to visits to Daegu, and 2 related to the Shincheonji Church. There were 12 confirmed cases who had contact with confirmed patients from other cities or provinces.
