Wooil CNTec Increases Mask Production with Recent Workforce Expansion and Special Labor... President Moon: "Swift Resolution of Corporate Difficulties"
[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Jeong-min] President Moon Jae-in visited a mask manufacturing company in Pyeongtaek that increased its daily production from 200,000 to 500,000 masks through workforce expansion and special labor measures in response to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), to encourage the personnel involved.
The Blue House announced on the afternoon of the 6th that President Moon visited a mask manufacturing company (Wooil C&T) located in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province, to inspect the mask industry site. This inspection was arranged immediately after the implementation of the emergency mask supply adjustment measures starting that day. It was an opportunity to hear opinions from mask manufacturers, sellers, and others on the ground.
Han Jung-woo, the Blue House Press Secretary, explained, "This visit is to a mask manufacturer that has more than doubled its production scale through workforce expansion and special labor. This company manufactures health masks and uses domestically produced MB filters exclusively."
Wooil C&T recently doubled its production volume through workforce expansion and special labor. While it produced an average of 200,000 masks daily in January, it is now producing 500,000 masks daily in the first week of the recent period. The number of workers is adjusted according to packaging and manufacturing conditions, and they are working 24 hours through extended shifts.
Wooil C&T supplies all the masks it produces to Yuhan-Kimberly. Amid the increasing demand for masks due to the spread of COVID-19, the company has hired about 80 additional workers.
After receiving an explanation of the production process, President Moon was briefed on the government’s support status for mask manufacturers by Minister Sung Yun-mo of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Vice Minister of the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety at the raw materials warehouse. Additionally, he listened to the difficulties related to mask supply from the CEO and employees of Wooil C&T and the CEO of Yuhan-Kimberly.
President Moon promised active government support, including smooth raw material supply and prompt resolution of corporate difficulties. He also encouraged the workers who continue to work night shifts and weekends to produce masks.
