[Trailer] 'Gringo' That Wanted to Resemble 'Pulp Fiction'

Harold (David Oyelowo), a pharmaceutical sales representative, learns of a plan to fire him and his wife Bonnie's (Thandi Newton) affair during a business trip to Mexico with his friend and boss Richard (Joel Edgerton) and Elaine (Charlize Theron), leaving him in despair. In a state of desperation, he stages a fake kidnapping but ends up in real danger of being kidnapped by a Mexican drug cartel. The conflict unfolds in a quirky and lively manner. It creates irony through crude jokes and indiscriminate violence. It is not comparable to Quentin Tarantino's 'Pulp Fiction' or 'The Hateful Eight.' It lacks boldness and fails to effectively utilize the exotic and alien culture. The actors maintain a consistently light and bright tone throughout. While it skillfully delivers indirect satire, it struggles to build suspense. The use of female roles is also disappointing; they only show either vile or good personalities without significant roles. The title 'Gringo' is a slang term referring to Americans.
