Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power "Joining Efforts to Overcome COVID-19 Crisis"…100 Billion Won in Donations and Supplies Support

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bo-kyung] Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) recently provided a total of 1 billion KRW in donations and supplies to Daegu, Gyeongbuk, Gyeongju, and other areas struggling with the rapid spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).

KHNP announced that following an emergency support of 300 million KRW to Daegu Metropolitan City, Gyeongsangbuk-do, and Gyeongju City during the early stages of the COVID-19 outbreak last month, it added another 500 million KRW on the 5th, bringing the total donation to 800 million KRW. These funds will be used by local governments to purchase preventive supplies and protective equipment for medical personnel.

Additionally, as soldiers from the 2nd Operations Command, a sister unit for nuclear power plant protection located in Daegu, were deployed for disinfection efforts, KHNP urgently provided 1,000 sets of protective gear including medical protective clothing, goggles, gloves, and shoe covers for the soldiers. Encouragement supplies worth 10 million KRW, including masks, hand sanitizers, health supplements, and snacks, were also delivered to medical staff at 27 screening clinics nationwide.

Furthermore, for the safety and health of the public, KHNP has supported more than 74,000 masks and over 8,300 hand sanitizers to 345 villages around five nuclear power headquarters nationwide, including children's centers and comprehensive welfare centers for the disabled in the Gyeongju area.

Jung Jae-hoon, President of KHNP, said, "We hope KHNP’s sincere efforts will provide some help to all those suffering from the spread of COVID-19 and to those working hard on the front lines." He added, "KHNP will continue to actively cooperate with local government activities as well as ensure stable power supply to participate in overcoming the COVID-19 crisis."
