According to Daegu City, the deceased patient was an 87-year-old woman, the 901st confirmed COVID-19 case. She was tested positive at Nam-gu Public Health Center in Daegu on the 24th of last month and was admitted to the isolation ward of Daegu Medical Center on the afternoon of the 26th.
The patient showed symptoms such as fever, cough, sputum, and chills. She had been receiving inpatient treatment and passed away around 4 p.m. that day. It was reported that she had underlying conditions including cardiomegaly, hypertension, dementia, and anxiety disorder. She was the 24th death in the Daegu area. Earlier that day, a 67-year-old woman who was receiving treatment in the negative pressure isolation ward at Chilgok Kyungpook National University Hospital also passed away.
According to the quarantine authorities, among the confirmed patients as of that day, about 52 were in severe or worse condition. There were 27 patients using oxygen masks or having a fever above 38.5 degrees Celsius, and 25 critically ill patients who had difficulty breathing on their own and were using mechanical ventilation or artificial respirators, the authorities said. As of midnight that day, there were 5,328 confirmed cases, with an additional 293 cases confirmed by 4 p.m., totaling 5,621 cases.
